Adventures to the Pond, Day 3

Hours Worked: 8:00-11:30 (3 hours, 30 minutes)

Today was a very exciting day for the kids because it was the day that we took them to the Proctor pond. When we arrived everything was normal as the kids were playing around the classroom doing various activities. Hannah and I joined in with different games playing with dolls, doing dress-up, and of course observing the tadpoles. We feed them today because the night before we made their food. Tadpole food consists of boiling lettuce and then freezing it in ice cube trays. We made them one cube and the tadpoles didn't seem to want it, but a website said that you are supposed to give one to them every couple of days so hopefully them will eat it! After cleaning up we had snack. I am still very shocked by the fact that they are ready to eat snack by 9:30 in the morning. I just ate my breakfast while they were having snack! After Lagan refused to eat his snack he asked me to read him a story. As we were sitting on the couch we got a surprise visit from Michele, who ended up taking pictures of us to put in the home page for Senior Project. Afterwards, the kids were split up into two groups. Half went to the Andover library with Amy and the other half stayed behind. When they left for the library Raz, Hannah and I made bracelets out of beads and pipe cleaners as one of the gifts the kids will give their moms for Mothers Day. Hannah and I liked ours too much, so now we wear ours! Then came the big event, the pond! We took them to the pond and let them look around for a bit. Hannah found a frog and we pointed it out them, as they soon learned that you have to be quiet when you are around the frogs. After looking we had to take them back to meet up with the whole group. Then came centers and even though Hannah had to go to class I took a small group of kids to the pond with one of the teachers. We brought nets and they got to try and catch tadpoles and frogs. I found a couple but wasn't fast enough to catch them. Matt Mackenzie soon came along and caught a tadpole for them to touch and hold, but it slipped out of Sasha's hand! Then we went back and took one more group to the pond. They liked it as well when we caught the tadpole. They had some trouble sharing the two nets we had so hopefully we can find some more. Joe, along with the others really wanted to catch a frog but we explained that we have to wait a bit longer for more tadpoles to grow into frogs before we could catch them. Overall, I think the kids really liked the pond and wished they could spend more time there! (sorry this one was long as well!)
